It might be a spatial time dimension distortion, better known as a rip in the fabric of the universe. But it appears to be caused by the way clouds boil and roll like a gas or fluid, fooling the eyes and creating the illusion of a continuous wave. And it gives new meaning to the phrase, surf's up!
